Rowdy Busch strikes again

By

BRISTOL — Kyle Busch was patient and it paid off.

Mere car lengths away from being lapped with 20 laps to go, a late caution gave Rowdy room to return to Bristol glory.

Busch fended off 2012 winner Timothy Peters on a side-by-side battle on the last lap and delivered his fourth Camping World Truck Series victory at Bristol Motor Speedway with Wednesday’s UNOH 200.

“It was really great to be able to get a win here,” said Busch. “We worked great and worked really hard to make a truck different than what we’ve done here in the past. Some luck kind of went our way. Some guys stumbled on restarts late.

“Timothy ran me down and was way faster than us. There was the right amount of laps left that we were able to beat him.”

Busch had fought to second earlier in the race, but collected a speeding penalty on pit road and was sent to the back of the field. He was on the verge of being lapped when the race’s fourth caution provided an opportunity for fuel and fresh tires.

A fifth caution set up Busch’s pass of Ryan Blaney with five laps to go and created a late lap battle with Peters. Peters made a move on the final lap, but Busch held the advantage down the front stretch and the runner-up slid across the front into the wall.
