Butch and Glenda Leonard drove from Bristol to try the new oven-baked pizza on Thursday about noon. “This was the first time we’ve been here and it was awesome,” Glenda said.

Tim Decker, who owns the shop with his wife, Crystal, made the first pizza, a vegetarian pizza loaded with fresh vegetables, such as onions, mushrooms, green peppers and black olives, and Feta cheese, on a thin wood-fired crust. The Leonards added ham to their vegetarian pizza.

The couple, Butch and Glenda, had read about Smoky Mountain Bakers on the Facebook website, where the Deckers added a status about the new oven on Thursday morning, replacing an older, smaller oven located in the dining area. Several people visiting the restaurant’s Facebook page recently have made positive remarks about the new oven, boasting their interest in trying the pizza.
