Eight apartment units in the Elizabethton Housing and Development Agency community will be renovated to meet Americans with Disability Act requirements.

The EHDA Board of Commissioners approved a contract Tuesday with Bracken & Associates doing business as Travis Chatman Construction for $325,571 to renovate the eight apartments.

EHDA Director Kelly Geagley said the units would get widened doorways and updates to bathrooms to bring cabinets to a more accessible height for those with disabilities. New fire and smoke alarms will be installed that feature louder buzzers and flashing strobe lights. Outside the apartments, ramps to the apartments will be built, curb ramps will be installed and handicapped parking in the parking areas will be updated.
