Although its signature fundraiser is months away, the Carter County Relay For Life is already planning for the main event and for other fundraisers leading up to the Relay.

“Everyone’s busy, planning for the new year,” said Kathy Thomason, team development chair.

With a theme of “Hope Through Time,” organizers have adjusted the goal to $120,000 for the 2014 Relay, a reflection of economic factors.

“We backed down on the goal a little bit,” Thomason said. “Part of that was because of the economy.”

Last year’s goal was $130,000, and the campaign fell short with a total raised of around $100,000, and Thomason said there is an additional goal to have 45 teams registered for the fundraiser. So far, 11 teams have registered for the Carter County Relay For Life.

The Kick-off Celebration will be held Jan. 16 at the Truman Clark Annex and the 2014 Relay for Life will be held on June 20 at the Elizabethton High School track.

The Carter County Relay will be hosting the annual Battle of the Badges and the county roadblocks to raise money. Individual teams will also organize their own fundraisers.
