Carter County Clerk and Master Melissa Moreland has set an example for county officeholders to follow – something they should have already been doing.
But before Moreland’s three requests to destroy records could be approved at Thursday’s meeting, the Carter County Records Committee had to approve the documentation those officeholders must fill out before disposing or destroying any records.
“That’s not been done to date,” County Historian and Records Committee Chairman Scott Bowers said about the documentation’s approval.
Bowers said he recently talked to office holders about the proper procedure for destroying or disposing of records because some of them were doing so without going through the committee.
