Rebuttal regarding Nave’s letter on abortion

By

To the editor:

I could not believe the comments in the Sunday, Oct. 26, newspaper letter to the editor from Dan Nave!

He states: ”It is good to vote against Obama and his taxpayer’s funding of Planned Parenthood” and even tried to support it with the Bible! (However, his quotes come from the McCarthy Bible, which has its roots in Calvinism, which is another debate I’m sure).

This comment shows not only Mr. Nave’s ignorance on the facts, it also proves that he has absolutely no interest in researching facts. To put something in print, does not make it true! Here are the facts regarding abortion and Planned Parenthood funding:

”Planned Parenthood has received federal funding since 1970, when President Richard Nixon signed into law the Family Planning Services and Population Research Act, amending the Public Health Service Act.”

Now, the key word here is ”President Nixon.” Unless I have missed something, President Nixon was a Republican. Also, Roe vs. Wade was made the ”law of the land” in 1973 by a majority of Republican-appointed Supreme Court Justices! The Democratic justice, Byron White, wrote a dissent against this law!

Now, about abortion in politics. Republicans pull this one out at every election and start waving the abortion flag, blaming the Democrats for this one! My question to the Republicans is: When George Bush had a historical majority in the House, Senate, White House and Supreme Court for six of the eight years of his administration, why did the Republicans not overturn Roe vs. Wade?

I’ll tell you why! Because they use this topic to get Christians stirred up every election, putting the fear into them that voting anything but Republican will send them to hell! When in fact, it was their party that passed this law and their party that has kept it as law when they had the power to do something!

If there is going to be any judgment passed down from above on anyone concerning abortion, I would wonder how will the politicians who were in office during the historic Republican majority for six years answer for their lost chance to overturn Roe vs. Wade? I doubt this opportunity will ever happen again in our lifetime.

I am against abortion, I hate it with a passion. I do believe God will judge America for this travesty upheld by the Supreme Court in 1973, However, I also know who is responsible for this law and I believe that blaming Democrats is hypocritical. Both parties are guilty of this travesty and for Mr. Nave to claim that the Republican party is the ”party of God” and the Democrat party the ”party of abortion” is a lie and does more harm to the churches and the good people in them, and those who might want to become a Christian, than it does for him to win a few votes!
