Reader: Williams puts people before party

To the editor:

What should we expect from our state representative? One who puts the interests of us, the residents of the district in which they serve, above all political interests.

I am so sick and tired of reading letters and negative campaign ads that call Rep. Kent Williams a traitor. Who exactly did he betray? Certainly, not the people he represents. He obviously placed the people who live in this district before himself when he became Speaker of the House. He put the people before any special interests, including his political party. He lost his status of being a recognized member of the Tennessee GOP, period. Big deal. Exactly, what did, we, the people, lose?

You simply need to look around Carter County to see the many benefits we have reaped during the six years he has served. Do you really need them listed? Surely you don’t, as there are improvements that have been made in every corner, and facet of the county. We are finally getting much needed tax dollars back into our community after years of being left behind and ignored.

I appreciate the many sacrifices he has made on our behalf these past six years. He has taken criticism and withstood many lies from fantasy land. He continues to tirelessly work for every one of us regardless of our party affiliation or even if we are a registered voter.

Rep. Williams’ home phone number is published in the phone book. Check around the state and see how many other representatives or senators you can find home phone numbers for. I know he receives calls at all hours, every day of the week. That’s pretty impressive considering his job is supposed to be a part-time job. He is here for us. I can’t imagine how large the number is of individuals that have been personally assisted during his tenure. Are you one of those he has helped and are still crucifying him for simply not putting a political party before your interests? If so, shame on you.

In our house, God and family comes first before any political party. It’s a shame there aren’t more of us in this country that feel the same way. My vote, goes to the man that has proven his dedication to our community, Kent Williams, and I hope yours will, too.
