Rangers brace for powerful ‘Landers

A different breed of Cloudland football invades Goddard Field tonight.

The Highlanders (4-0, 1-0) are undefeated and the state’s fifth-ranked Class 1A team. The program hasn’t been this hot since the Mike Lunsford-Mark Byrd days from a decade ago.

Unaka (0-3, 0-1) meanwhile is shooting to get untracked in this Mountain East Conference matchup.

“Coach Pittman does a great job with them,” Unaka coach Steve McKinney said. “They’re very athletic. Their quarterback and running backs are good athletes.

“They play hard, they’re big up front and they don’t make a lot of mistakes. They’re starting to throw the football a little bit, so that’s another scary thing.”
