Less than a week after closing Range Elementary, the Carter County Board of Education continued to discuss ways to address its budget shortage.
On Wednesday, County Finance Director Ingrid Deloach and Director of Schools Kevin Ward presented board members with the state of the county’s budget during a workshop.
Outside of the Range closing, Ward and Deloach created almost $498,500 in cuts from the previous year’s budget. Although the Range closing added nearly $459,644 in additional cuts, a budget shortage of $37,856 still remains.
Despite the shortage, Ward said he was optimistic the budget would be balanced in time for the new fiscal year.
“We feel very confident that we can make up that difference,” Ward said.
