Promising outlook for EHS golf

Elizabethton’s golf team will again play the role of underdog this season.

Following a struggling fall campaign which saw the Cyclones catch fire in the District 1-A/AA tournament to reach the region, it appears to be a similar scenario.

“We’ve got real good numbers, and they’re actually a little bit better than I thought they were going to be, so far,” coach Ken Hardin said on Friday morning at Elizabethton Golf Course. “We’ll have to see when I actually put them on the course. We’ve got a reasonable chance to qualify for the region again as a team, and we’ve got a couple of individuals that have worked real hard — and they’ve got a shot, also.”

Elizabethton’s girls are sky high after the best campaign the program has ever seen. The Lady Cyclones stormed to the District 1-A/AA championship, at their home course.

The going got tough a week later in the region tournament with powerhouse Grainger in the field. The good news is the Region 1-A/AA event is back in Elizabethton this fall.

“My top three will be the same three girls that I had last year, that won the district for the first time in our school’s history,” said Brian Moore, coach of the Lady Cyclones. “So we feel pretty confident going in.”
Karter Geagley is the only senior. The juniors are Madison Campbell, Jamie Hinkle and Rachel Phipps.
