On Saturday, Doug Mitchell claimed school system administrators had never discussed charges of harassment against him, but, on Wednesday morning, the embattled West Side Elementary School principal said he had, in fact, had a telephone conversation with Assistant Superintendent Richard VanHuss.

On Tuesday, when contacted by the Elizabethton STAR, Assistant Superintendent Richard VanHuss corroborated Director of Schools Ed Alexander’s written statement that VanHuss spoke with Mitchell concerning potentially inappropriate conduct with another city school system employee.

“I most certainly did have that conversation with Mr. Mitchell,” VanHuss said.

When asked about VanHuss’ resolute statement, Mitchell also confirmed to the STAR that there had been a conversation.
But that’s not what Mitchell said in a statement he released this past weekend.
