Prep football schedules see considerable change

Summer vacation, which has officially arrived for TSSAA athletics, is the serpent that draws high school sports fans away from their Garden of Eden.
The start of a new year, however, tends to sneak up like a snake in high grass.
With that in mind, the schedule-makers have spoken for football — and the breakdown for Carter and Johnson County schools is more than noteworthy.
Each of our local teams will play in Week Zero this year, with EHS (vs. Daniel Boone) and Johnson County (at Tennessee High) starting off with the same opponents they did the last two years.
While Hampton entertains familiar foe Unicoi County, Cloudland (vs. Avery County) and Happy Valley (at Volunteer) will get things rolling against non-traditional adversaries. Unaka has never engaged Oliver Springs in gridiron battle, but hosts the formidable Bobcats in its opener.
