Police say truck clocked at 105 mph on Elk Avenue

A Johnson City man was arrested early Monday morning on reckless driving and drunken driving charges after Elizabethton police said they clocked him traveling at speeds in excess of 100 mph on Elk Avenue.

According to Elizabethton Police Department reports, Noe H. Nicolas-Pena, 24, 206 Clark Manor Drive, Johnson City, was spotted by Capt. Jason Shaw near the intersection of West Elk Avenue and West G Street shortly after midnight on Monday in a gray Dodge Ram pickup driving at 72 mph in a 45-mph zone.

Shaw radioed ahead to EPD Officer Jordan Ensor, who was driving west on Elk Avenue, to be on the lookout for the speeding vehicle.

Ensor reported that he then saw the vehicle “traveling at an extremely high rate of speed” and used his in-car radar to clock the truck at 105 mph in a 40-mph zone.
