Police say meth materials found in school zone

Two Elizabethton residents were charged Monday after police said they discovered evidence of one-pot methamphetamine labs in their home just blocks from T.A. Dugger Junior High School.

Brandon Taylor, 32, and Della Yon, 35, both of 412 Lee Ave., were charged with promotion of methamphetamine manufacture, violation of a drug-free school zone and initiation of a process to manufacture methamphetamine.

Elizabethton Police Department Officer John Bulla said a tip led them to the neighborhood home, where he said an investigation reportedly revealed the shake-and-bake labs and a number of chemicals and equipment commonly used to make meth.

As Taylor and Yon took chilly decontamination showers in an outdoor stall surrounded by a blue tarp, two officers dressed in hazardous materials suits and respirators removed plastic bottles filled with various colored liquids and dried crystals and lined them on a plastic sheet on the house’s front yard.
