Elizabethton police have identified the man who they fell to his death Saturday afternoon over the side of a bridge on Highway 67.

They say William Lee Parrott Sr., 60, 431 W. G St., Apartment 3, lost control of the motorized bicycle he was riding on Highway 67 into Elizabethton and was thrown over the concrete rail to the ground below.

The Elizabethton Police Department’s Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is conducting an investigation into the incident.

Here is the STAR’s previous report:

On Saturday afternoon, an Elizabethton police officer discovered a man’s body over the side of the bridge on Highway 67, near West G Street.

Preliminary reports indicate that, as he was traveling east toward Elizabethton, the man lost control of his motorized bicycle and crashed into the bridge’s guardrail. Authorities believe the force of the impact hurled him from his vehicle and onto the railroad bed below.

At approximately 12:46 p.m., Officer Joe Holsclaw was driving east into Elizabethton when he noticed the unattended vehicle leaning against the bridge’s guardrail. Upon inspection, he noticed the man lying face-down on the railroad bed and drove down to his position.

After arriving at the man’s position, and after failing to find any vital signs, Holsclaw contacted emergency medical services. The man was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.

Authorities do not believe that drugs or alcohol contributed to the man’s death, but he was not wearing a helmet. His identity is being withheld until his family is notified.
