Elizabethton Police Chief Matt Bailey announced Saturday that he will relinquish his responsibilities and move to a lower position in the department later this month.
In a written statement, Bailey, who has been employed by the EPD for 16 years and was appointed chief in 2007, said he asked City Manager Fred Edens to reassign him as a patrol captain.
“This decision is 100 percent of my choosing; influenced by no one,” Bailey wrote. “This decision is based on personal reasons as well as the desire to spend more time with my family to meet my obligations with them.”
