More housing options will be available for city residents after the Elizabethton Regional Planning Commission approved the second phase of construction for Riverview Town Homes.

The Riverview Town Homes are located on Overmountain Drive between Lowe’s Home Improvement and the Watauga River. The second phase of the development will feature 11 buildings housing 64 units and the clubhouse for the community. The construction will also include a swimming pool, playground, basketball court and more than 4,000 feet of river frontage.

“We want to offer a nice community with plenty of amenities,” said Shane Abraham with Universal Development and Construction.

Abraham said the town home community would be very pedestrian-friendly, with its access to the city’s Linear Path and the possibility of additional nearby retail stores with the recent focus on riverfront development.

Abraham said ground-breaking would take place on the second phase of the town homes by the end of May. The first phase of the complex was started in 2009 and contains 50 units.
