Pie Wars III offers nonprofits a chance for extra helping of funding

JOHNSON CITY — Area nonprofits wanting Pie Wars III to deliver a funding boost must apply to the Young Professionals of the Tri-Cities by Oct. 12.

The group will host its annual Pie Wars fundraiser Jan. 20, 2013, pitting local pizza places against each other in a blind taste test, where attendees are the judges.

“It’s our goal to donate the proceeds of Pie Wars to a group that helps future young professionals; today’s children are tomorrow’s YPs,” said Cory Lewis, one of the founding members of YPTri. “We’ve been able to help out two outstanding organizations in years past and we believe 2013 will be no different.”

Officials with interested nonprofits should visit www.YPTri.org and click the Pie Wars link for more information. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Oct. 12. Applications may be submitted online or mailed to T.C. Lewis Properties, 6315 Kingsport Highway, Johnson City, TN 37601. Because a high volume of applications is expected, and the time each takes to review, YPTri will not accept applications after the deadline.

The inaugural Pie Wars event raised more than $11,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of Johnson City/ Washington County. The Children’s Advocacy Center of the 1st Judicial District was the beneficiary of more than $7,000 raised at YPTri’s second event.

YPTri was created in 2010 to provide social, professional and philanthropic opportunities for young professionals in and around the Tri-Cities. For more information about YPTri, visit www.facebook.com/YPTri.
