Perry Elliott recognized as teacher of year, director who makes a difference
11:01 am | March 5, 2013Elizabethton High School Band Director Perry Elliott was already having a “fabulous” year, including his Betsy Band
capturing the state Division II championship for the second time in three years.
It turns out the director was also gaining some recognition of his own.
Elliott was recently named one of the “50 Directors Who Make a Difference” by School Band & Orchestra Magazine, and also was chosen by fellow educators as EHS’s teacher of the year.
Elliott has been a teacher for 35 years and has been at EHS for 22 years.
He was notified in November that he was selected for the magazine’s 15th director’s listing. One band director from each state is selected to be in the listing.
“I was pretty stunned,” Elliott said. “This is a magazine you get and you read and think ‘yeah, that guy is really awesome.’ I don’t think of myself as being very awesome. I was really honored. This was the first time I have been in a national publication. It was really a very, very special thing for me.”
