9:44 am | January 15, 2013

The Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department will host a public hearing tonight to gather public input regarding the future of the Linear Path.

The public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. Residents are invited to attend the public hearing to share their input on improvements or changes that could be made to the Linear Path, specifically in the area of accessibility.

Parks and Recreation Director Mike Mains said the public hearing was a part of the department’s self-evaluation for the Americans with Disabilities Act. The hearing will focus on topics such as accessibility to the trail, accommodations for individuals with disabilities, path maintenance and administrative policies and procedures.

Mains said the focus of the hearing would be accessibility for those with physical disabilities.

“We are seeking some input from the community in regards of those with physical disabilities or challenges and how accessible the Linear Path is for those citizens,” Mains said.
