Thousands graced downtown on Thursday for Elizabethton’s Fourth of July parade.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, this was the biggest parade Elizabethton ever saw,” parade planning committee chairman Bob Cable said after the last float made its way past the monument. “It was an hour long, and I thought every second of it was exciting.”

Attendees seemed to agree with Cable, cheering from the side of Elk Avenue as veterans, politicians and local organizations passed by.

“I think it was wonderful to be in the parade,” veteran Chris Bowers said as he sat under a tent set up specially for those who served in the military. “It was a very nice thing for them to do.”
