Overmountain Victory Trail Celebration brings history to life Saturday, Sunday

10:00 am | September 19, 2013

Visitors to Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area may find themselves transported back in time this weekend, as reenactors practicing traditional field crafts and weapons demonstrations take over the property for the annual Overmountain Victory Trail Celebration.

This yearly event brings people from throughout East Tennessee and Western North Carolina to Sycamore Shoals to see how people lived and fought during the height of the American revolution. Sycamore Shoals sits on the Overmountain Victory Trail, which runs from Abingdon, Va., to King’s Mountain, on the border of North Carolina and South Carolina.

The event is sponsored by the Washington County Regiment of the North Carolina Militia, a group of local historians and historical reenactors, and the Friends of Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area.
