Osaka II offers Japanese fusion cuisine

Health experts are always touting the value of eating more fish, so with some New Year’s resolve under my belt, I looked around for possible dining destinations and decided to pay a visit to Osaka II in Johnson City with a group of friends on a recent Saturday evening.

Osaka II, which specializes in Japanese fusion cuisine, came highly recommended by one of my friends in the dining group who had already been visiting the restaurant for lunch on a regular basis.

Osaka II is tucked away behind Applebee’s and adjacent to Bailey’s Sports Bar in Johnson City. An attractive, well-stocked sushi bar greets patrons as they enter the restaurant. The interior design of the dining area is pleasing to the eye and features walls painted a warm peach hue contrasted against a blue carpeting. The seating at tables and booths is upholstered with dark brown vinyl. Ornamental touches include large stalks of bamboo, rice paper hangings depicting Japanese scenes, and indirect recessed lighting and several glass-bowl chandeliers. There’s also a large flat screen television mounted against the wall at the rear of the dining area.

A server arrived to provide menus and take our drink orders after my group settled at a large booth. The menu offers quite a selection of sushi dinners, special rolls and sushi and sashimi à la carte. I like sushi in moderation, but for a full meal I usually like some other options, and Osaka II also provides selections in such categories as Tempura, Noodles, Teriyaki and Hibachi meals, as well as Bento Boxes.
