Thanks to the combined efforts of 19 churches, hundreds of Carter County children will receive school supplies before heading back to class.
Hampton’s Harmony Free Will Baptist Church will host the fifth annual Back to School Bash Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The Back to School Bash has grown each year, and Harmony Free Will Baptist Pastor Brandon Young said organizers expect about 1,300 students to attend this year, along with their families, for a total of 3,500 to 4,000 people. The event’s organizers require parents to stay with their children during the event.
Volunteers will stuff 1,300 backpacks filled with school supplies to be distributed to students in grades kindergarten through 12. All students will receive a three-ring binder, spiral-bound notebooks, glue sticks, scissors, washable markers, erasers, pencils and a pencil box. Students in kindergarten through sixth grade will get a 24-count package of crayons, while those in 7-12 grade will get a package of colored pencils; students in 7-12 grade will also get a protractor.
