According to Elizabethton Police Department Patrol Officer Jordan Ensor, gunshots were reported Monday afternoon by residents on G and West H streets, and a silver Chevrolet truck was seen leaving the area by witnesses.

Responding officers found a man walking in the neighborhood, and reported finding a handgun magazine and a bullet in his pocket.

A few minutes later, Ensor said he spotted a truck matching the vehicles description on Stateline Road and pulled it over in the Betsytowne Shopping Center’s parking lot.

Ensor said Kenneth Shelton was pulled from behind the wheel and a .40-caliber Ruger pistol was found by his side.

“Apparently, he bought the gun recently at a flea market and wanted to show it off to his friend, so he shot the truck,” the officer said.
