William Lee “Bill” White, 78, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Watauga County, N.C., he was a son of the late William I. and Gladys Pitts White. He moved to Elizabethton in 1955.
Mr. White was a 1952 graduate of Blowing Rock High School. He was retired from the Clinchfield CSX Railroad after 35 years of service. For the past two years, Mr. and Mrs. White have been living with their son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Michelle White.
Mr. White was of the Presbyterian Faith. He loved to play golf.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Tim White, and a brother, Joe White.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Peggy White; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Michelle White, Elizabethton; a daughter, Janet Hill, Elizabethton; his grandchildren, Crystal Hurd and husband Richard, Brad Price and wife Christy, Anthony, David Hill and wife Jennifer, Maggie White and Jessica Duke; his great-grandchildren, Grant White, Bralyn and Briley Price, Damian Hill and Dylan Hurd; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Cole and Shirley White; a brother-in-law, Willie White; and his special friends, the Rev. Harry Moore, Sherry Estep, Christy Bracken and Tammie Price.
Graveside services for Mr. White will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Bruce Hendrich officiating. Interment will follow the service. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Michelle White, 134 Chambers Hollow Road, Elizabethton. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Amedisys Home Health Care and the staff of Hermitage Health Care Center.
