Wanda L. McKinney Stevens, 82, of Roan Mountain, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Phillip and Rose Hyder McKinney.
Wanda was a graduate of Hampton High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Sunset Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Stevens, December 3, 2004; two sisters, Alzora Morton and Rometta Barnett; and two brothers, Roland and Rhonda McKinney.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Larry Byrd, Blackshear, Ga.; two grandsons, Justin Byrd, Fredericksburg, Va., and Tom Byrd and wife Tonya, Houston, Texas; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Phyllis Houser, Boone, N.C., and Zelda Estep and husband Lindberg, Elizabethton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronnie and Judy McKinney and Barney and Betty McKinney all of Hampton; two sisters-in-law, Velma McKinney, Hampton, and JoAnn McKinney, Unicoi; several nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Darlene Tolley; and a dear friend, Cheryl Bowers, who always transported her to church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Stevens will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Terry Richardson officiating. The Eulogy will be given by Grace Ann Roberson, and Scripture Reading by Tom and Justin Byrd. The Sunset Free Will Baptist Church Choir will provide the music. Interment will follow in the McKinney Family Cemetery, Hampton. Active pallbearers will be Eddie Morton, Lindy Philip Estep, Phillip Stewart, Johnny Julian, Tom Byrd and Justin Byrd. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
