Pauline Taylor, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at the age of 83. Pauline was born in St. Cloud, Minn., on August 29, 1929. She was born to the late Floyd and Jennie McConaghie Payne and grew up in Farmington, Minn. She attended business school in Mankato and then worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., for several years before moving to San Diego, Calif., where she met her husband Jerry. They were married 58 years at the time of his death. They moved to Houston, Texas for several years and then moved to Jerry’s hometown in Elizabethton, Tenn., in 1958. They had resided in Colonial Heights since 1965 and she was a member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church since 1966. Jerry and Pauline had traveled and camped all of the 48 contiguous states and loved camping in Texas during the winter for a number of years. Pauline was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren doing many activities.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jerry E. Taylor (2010), she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Rewoldt, and an infant brother, Gerald Payne.
Survivors include her sons, Gary and wife Louise Taylor, Garth Taylor of Kingsport, and Greg and wife Deena Taylor of Gray; grandchildren, Rebekah Taylor Burton (husband, Justin), Jessica Brooke Taylor, Robert (Bobby) M. Taylor, Lena Kari Taylor, Jeri Rayne Taylor and Lacy Kathleen “Kate” Taylor; great-grandchildren, Kendall Isaac Burton and Rylan Jacob Burton; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and the staff at Life Care Center of Gray for their excellent care of Pauline for the last few weeks.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church with a funeral service at 7 p.m. conducted by Pastor Tom Phillips. The interment service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, at TriCities Memory Gardens. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Bishop, Bill Bullis, Eric Crockett, Jim Crockett Jr., Dr. Bill Hudson, Dwight Monday, Bobby A. Taylor, Charles Tittle, Brent Turner, Randy Turner, Shannon Turner, Shaun Turner, Jack Ward and Jake Bentley.
