Virginia A. Shoun, 87, of Highway 91, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012, at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Herbert J. and Carrie Alice Newport Skinner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” H. Shoun Sr.; a granddaughter, Ruby Grindstaff; and by three sisters and four brothers.
Mrs. Shoun was an outstanding Mom and Grandmother and enjoyed her grandchildren, especially the boys. She was very loving and active. She loved to joke, have fun, take pictures and make scrapbooks for family. Among her favorite things to do were knitting, reading, gardening and her flowers.
Mrs. Shoun was a homemaker and liked to listen to country music. She was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Grindstaff and husband Carrell, Wendy Shoun, Susan Taylor and husband Kirby, Lori Trivett and husband Terry and Vicki Berry and husband Jimmy, all of Elizabethton; a son, William H. Shoun Jr. and wife Juli Shoun, Elizabethton; grandchildren, Cindy Johnson, David Grindstaff and Matthew Taylor, all of Elizabethton, Amber Horton, Gray, Heather Hirata of California, Kelly Shelton of Kentucky, Scott Pearson and Brandi Berry, both of Elizabethton; five great-grandchildren, Joseph Taylor, Carson Hirata, Anthony Johnson, Ryan Johnson and Lyndsi Grindstaff; a sister, Grace Barrett of Idaho; and a brother, Donnie Skinner of Massachusetts.
The funeral service for Mrs. Shoun will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, December 30, at Poplar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Eric Wright officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service, or at the home of a daughter, Lori Trivett, 3058 Highway 91, at anytime. Music will be under the direction of Edwin Taylor and Leisa Wright. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, December 31, in the Shoun Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Grindstaff, Anthony Johnson, Matthew Taylor, Scott Pearson, Kirby Taylor, Greg Johnson, Jimmy Berry, Cameron Shelton and Jason Horton. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the church at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to Poplar Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 2829 Highway 91, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
