Van Chambers


Van Chambers, 63, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Ernest and Jewel Adams Chambers.
Van was a 1967 graduate of Hampton High School and a 1972 graduate of East Tennessee State University with a degree in Business Administration. He was a retired employee of Graybar Electric, Bristol.
Van was a member of Union Baptist Church and the Median Adult Sunday School Class. He was an usher at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy White Chambers; a daughter, Julie Williams Gabel and her husband, John, Elizabethton; a very special grandson, Jonah Gabel; a brother, Fred Chambers and his wife, Kathy, Elizabethton; and two aunts, Dorothy and Ruby Chambers.
Funeral services for Mr. Chambers will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 13, at the Union Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Bright officiating. Music will be provided by Julie Gabel. Graveside services and interment will be at noon Friday, December 14, in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 11:50 p.m. Friday, will be Fred Chambers, John Gabel, James Barnett, Gary Singleton, Sam Grindstaff, Jesse James, Jack Ingram and Smith Davenport. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the First Responders, the Carter County Rescue Squad, the staff of the Emergency Room, Sycamore Shoals Hospital, his church family and friends of the family. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Union Baptist Church. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 11:50 p.m. Friday.
