Tammy S. Handy, 53, 3608 Ian Drive, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at the James H. Quillen CLC Nursing Home after a lengthy courageous battle with cancer.
She was a native of Johnson City and had lived in Elizabethton several years before returning to Johnson City. She was a daughter of Betty Ward of Elizabethton.
Mrs. Handy was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served her country during Desert Storm. She was also a volunteer at the V.A. Medical Center where she served in several different capacities. She had worked for Summers-Taylor Inc., City of Johnson City, and most recently served as warehouse manager for the Mazer Corporation.
Mrs. Handy was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Elizabethton.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, James “Ed” Handy; a son, Robert Lynn Handy of Hampton; four step-sons, Steve Handy of Loganville, Ga., Russell K. Handy of Atlanta, Kyle A. Handy and Allan Curtis Handy, and a step-daughter, Sheridan Handy, all of Grayson, Ga.; three grandchildren, Erin, Jacob and Khloe Handy; several step-grandchildren; two brothers, Ricky and Dean Guinn of Elizabethton; a sister, Teresa Guinn of Elizabethton; a special niece, Shauna; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. The Boone Dam VFW Honor Guard will conduct the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, then go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
