Dr. Stephen M. Smith, passed away at his residence in Johnson City, Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Born on February 6, 1950, he was a native of Humbleton, West Tennessee.

He was the son of the late Hallum and Edith Miller Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Marla Angotti.

Dr. Smith is survived by his wife, Dr. Penny Little Smith, a sister and her husband, Sandra and P.J. Angotti, Brownsville, Tenn.; Aunt Betty Berry and several nieces and nephews, Knoxville; a godson, Tyler Howat, West Lafeyette, Ind.; and mother-in-law, Paulene Hoilman.

Dr. Smith received his bachelors degree from University of Tennessee, Knoxville, his Pharmacy Degree from UT, Memphis, and his D.O. in Kansas City, Mo., and his psychiatry degree from East Tennessee State University, Johnson City.  Dr. Smith worked for Marion Hospital in Marion, Va. Dr. Smith was a member of Valley Forge United Methodist Church.

The funeral service for Dr. Smith will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with the Rev. Lon Tobin and the Rev. Kenneth Kyker officiating. Music will be provided by Linda Little. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 5 to 7 p.m.. The entombment will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Washington County Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Johnson City. Those who wish to attend the entombment service are asked to meet at the Funeral Home at 1:15 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Burrow, Denver King, Martin McCool, Danny Hoilman, Larry Jewett, Ronnie Little Jr., Dennis Berry and Tim McKinney. Honorary pallbearers will be patients, friends and neighbors of Dr. Smith.
