Shirley Katherine Buckles, 77, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late James W. and Reba Farmer Pierce.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Buckles, February 17, 2008, and by two brothers, infant Buddy Pierce and Mike Pierce.
Mrs. Buckles was a 1952 graduate of Elizabethton High School and a member of the Sycamore Stitchers Club. Shirley was a member of the Carter Christian Church.
She was a wonderful daughter, devoted wife, mother, sister and Granny who devoted her life to serving her family, her church family, her neighbors and most of all, her Lord. She loved cooking for her family and friends, quilting, and spoiling her four grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Lynn Buckles and wife, Janene of Lexington, Kentucky; Jeff Buckles and wife, Sheila of Elizabethton; and David Buckles, Nashville; four grandchildren, Adam Buckles, Lynsey Buckles, Joseph Buckles and Corrie Buckles; two sisters, Brenda Pearson, Scottsdale, Arizona, and Jo Kline and husband, Tom, Nashville; one brother, Dayton Pierce and wife, Louella, Bluff City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2013, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Tom Caraway and Lynn Buckles officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Monday to go to the cemetery. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Monday will be grandsons Adam and Joseph Buckles, Doug Buckles, Ken Nidiffer, Jack Miller, Bill Lyons, Tom Kline and Dale Buckles. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence Hardin, Dan Schumaier, Bill Miller, Brian Buckles, deacons and elders of Carter Christian Church. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Mom’s two sisters and her brother, to friends Carolyn Buckles, Linda Nidiffer, Jeanette Lyons, Dr. Michelle Davenport and Dr. Martin Palmeri & Associates.
