Ruth Virginia Hill, 90, of Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native and lifelong resident of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Dayton and Mollie Ingram Whitehead.
Mrs. Hill was a homemaker. She was a member of the Little Mountain Baptist Church and attended Doe River Baptist Church. She had taught Sunday School for 50 years and served as church secretary for years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Hill, May 28, 1986; a son, Eddie C. Hill; a daughter, Marjorie; and her sisters and brothers, Voretta Hill and Lawrence, Billy Gene, Vernon and Darrell Whitehead.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Karen Hill, Butler; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Nicholas Kosco, Bradenton, Fla.; three granddaughters, Lagina Vaught and her husband David, Jonesborough, Susan R. Hill, Roan Mountain, and Lindsey Hill, Butler; a great-granddaughter, Reagan Brobeck; her sisters, Lola Butler, Hampton, Geraldine Arney, Elizabethton, and Peggy Whitehead, Elk Park, N.C.; and her brothers, Byrl Whitehead, Roan Mountain, and Brady Lee Whitehead, Hampton, Va. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hill will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 8, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jack Roddy officiating. Music will be provided by Bill Anderson. Interment will follow in the Largent Cemetery (Bear Cage Road), Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Marvin Carden, Clarence Largent, Freddy Largent, R.D. St. Clarie, Mike Blevins, Kelly Crain, Ernie Largent and Troy Whitehead. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Collins, David Lynn Vaught, David Vaught Sr., Bernie Hill, Leon Whitehead, Estel Whitehead, Tom Reinie, Eddie Largent, Jessie Ledford, Tony Bowery and nephews. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the nursing staff of the 6th floor and 4th floor of Johnson City Medical Center for their excellent care and the attending physicians.
