Robert Lewis Benson, 90, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at his residence.
A native of Roanoke, Va., he was a son of the late Herbert Oliver and Willie Cook Benson.
Mr. Benson had lived in Elizabethton since 1993. He was a retired furniture salesman.
Mr. Benson served in the United States Army during World War II and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of High Point Pentecostal Church, High Point, N.C., where he was Song Leader for several years, but attended Siam Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Benson, and by three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, June Treadway Estep Benson; a son, Robert Benson Jr. and wife Dianne, Archdale, N.C.; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service for Mr. Benson will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jack Roddy and the Rev. Jerry Emert officiating. Music will be provided by Bill Anderson. Interment will follow in the Treadway Family Cemetery, Garrison Hollow Road. Active pallbearers will be Tony Benson, Brian Benson, J.B. Treadway, Jamie Combs, Jody Combs, Brandon Treadway, Brian Treadway and Mike Britt Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Farmers Market Sunday School Class of Siam Baptist Church. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Dr. Jonathan Bremer, Dr. Justin Digby, the staff of Amedisys Hospice and his caregivers. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence.
