Robert G. Campbell, 80, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012, at his residence after an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Henry F. and Jennie Lee Taylor Campbell.

Mr. Campbell was a 1951 graduate of Unaka High School where he was a Star Athlete. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 43 years of service.

Mr. Campbell was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Loraine Sparks Campbell, who died April 5, 2004, and a sister, Lucille Morin.

Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Whitson and husband Richard, and Lorie Tilson all of Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Mitch and Patsy Campbell, Palm City, Fla.; six grandchildren, Shonna Lane and husband Arnold, Alesha Church and husband Billy, Jon Whitson and wife Amy, Whittney Kite and husband Josh, Chelsey Campbell and Cigi Campbell and fiancé David; six great-grandchildren, Kalee Lane, Chance Street, Reiley Whitson, Emilee Whitson, Renna Lane and Cambree Kite; a sister and brother-in-law, Matoka and Albun Peters, Elizabethton; and a brother, William C. Campbell, Elizabethton.

A memorial service for Mr. Campbell will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, at Big Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Miller officiating. Music will be provided by B.J. Dishner and Patsy Nelson and Mr. Campbell’s great-grandchildren. Private interment will be at a later date at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Amedisys Hospice especially Denise and Brenda, also to a special friend, Miss Velma, Dr. Richard Rolen, the staff of McLeod Cancer Center and the staff of Franklin Woods Community Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Campbell to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202 or the Big Springs Baptist Church, c/o Tammy Miller, Treasurer, 171 Big Springs Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
