Polly Godfrey Cooke, 87, of Marietta, Ga., formerly of Johnson City, Tenn., died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Bickford Assisted Living in Marietta.
Mrs. Cooke was born in Newton, Ga., to the late Tyler G. and Irene Edmonds Godfrey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hal B. Cook; a sister, Hazel G. Eubanks; and two brothers, Tyler Godfrey and Pete J. Godfrey.
Mrs. Cooke was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church in Johnson City, Tenn. She was active in church and enjoyed visiting shut-ins. She enjoyed playing tennis and gardening and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include two daughters, Jan Cooke Massey and Susan Cooke Webb, both of Marietta, Ga.; a son, Hal Jerry Cooke, Gilbert, Ariz., and 10 grandchildren, Anna McDuffie, Adam Massey, Rachel Turner, Katie Slater, Jared Cooke, Kathleen Lemmer, Alexis Morris, Angela Kennedy, Jeff Cooke and Christine Cooke. Sixteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The graveside and inurnment service for Mrs. Cooke will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, April 29, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Monday. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
