Pauline Hill, age 92, of the Cove Creek Community of Roan Mountain, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late John and Verna Harrell Hughes.
Mrs. Hill was a homemaker who enjoyed working in her vegetable garden, with her flowers, cooking, and also feeding the birds. She was a 1941 graduate of Cloudland High School, and was a lifelong member of Burbank Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Hill, whom she married June 5, 1941 at the court house in Jonesborough, Tenn. He passed away September 26, 1968. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Cable, and three brothers, John Wesley Hughes, Loy Hughes and Mack Hughes.
She is survived by a daughter, Darlene Stocton and husband, Barry, Roan Mountain; three sons, Carroll Hill and wife, Patsy, Johnny Hill and wife, Vicki, and Don Hill and wife, Brenda, all of Roan Mountain; a brother, Dwight Hughes, Elizabethton; nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Draper Heaton, Marie Barnett, Cleo Greer, Mary Troutman, Esther Lester and Helen Guinn, also survive.
The funeral service for Pauline Hill will be conducted at 7 p.m.. Monday, January 28, 2013, in the Burbank Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Blevins, the Rev. Rex Johnson and the Rev. Randy English officiating. Music will be under the direction of Denise Hill and Aaron Stocton. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the church prior to the service or at her residence other times.
The graveside service will be conducted at noon on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, in the Hughes Cemetery in the Cove Creek Community. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the church on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. to travel together in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be James Stamey, Todd Hill, Kevin Hill, Anthony Roberts, Tim Turbyfill, Jimmy Hughes, Perry Daniels, Aaron Stocton, Robbie Turbyfill and Stacy Edwards. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Troutman, Ted Barnett, Kevin Huckaba, J.L. Troutman, Jim Cable, Bob Guinn and Randall Hughes.
