2nd Timothy : 4-7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 

Paul Hicks, 72, Roan Mountain passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012, in the Johnson City Medical Center .

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Lawrence H. and Hattie Melinda Cook Hicks. Paul was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters: Ellen Shell, Onis Irick and Ina Miller, and a brother, Charles Hicks.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law: Dorothy and Pat Hopson, Elizabethton; his special nieces and nephews: Danny and JoAnn Miller, Roger and Iris Miller and Linda and Walt Hopson, all of Roan Mountain, and Kathy and Ed Deloach, Hampton; several other nieces and nephews; his sister-in-waw: June Hicks, Elizabethton; and his brother-in-law: Odell Shell, Roan Mountain.

Funeral Services were conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2012, in the Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. john McCoury officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2012, in the Whitehead Cemetery, Butler. Active pallbearers are Neal Hopson, Will Hughes, Drew Miller, Tony Irick, Jack Gibbs, Walter Heaton, Douglas Richardson and Ralph McKinney. Honorary Pallbearers are Frank Holden, Arlie Singleton, Carroll Young, Junior Taylor and his church family. Pallbearers are requested to assemble at the funeral home at noon Tuesday.

The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center, the Staff of the East Tennessee State University Cancer Center and members of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church. Friends may also call at the residence of a nephew, Danny Miller, Roan Mountain. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Hicks to the Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund c/o JoAnn Miller, 8737 Highway 19 E Roan Mountain, Tenn. 37687. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at noon Tuesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn. net.
