Mrs. Myrtle Nidiffer Fortner, 85, of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, formerly of 120 George Bowers Road, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, December 3, 2012, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton following a brief illness.
She was the daughter of the late Henry and Emma Williams Nidiffer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Langford Fortner; three brothers, Orville, Carl and Harry Nidiffer; and a special aunt, Hazel Perry.
Mrs. Fortner was a member of Nidiffers Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. She retired from East Tennessee Undergarment as an inspector.
Mrs. Fortner loved to cook, work search puzzles and garden. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. She also enjoyed spoiling her adored special pets, Hobo and Cooper.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Franklin and Betti Perry and husband Larry, all of Elizabethton; two sons, Kenny and wife Sherry Fortner, Elizabethton, and Eugene “Blue” Fortner and wife Delilah, Limestone; a sister, Phyllis Williams, Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Todd Perry and wife Jackie, Kristi Davis and husband Chris, Shawn Fortner and wife Angela, and Christopher Fortner; 12 great-grandchildren, Kasey, Christopher, Melenda, Preston, Karrigan, Brylee, Tyler, Katie, Alex, Connor, Nick and Sidney; two aunts, Goldie Perry and Anna Mae Campbell, both of Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Muriel Elliott.
The Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Fortner will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Doug Hartley and Mr. Gary Pate officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, or at the residence at 120 George Bowers Road, Elizabethton, at other times. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 6, at the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Carter County. Active pallbearers will be selected from her grandsons and great-grandsons and will include Sherrill Perry. Honorary pallbearers will be Rob Perry, Tommy Davis, Jerry Fobare and Jeff Graybeal. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home in Elizabethton at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to go in procession.
