Muriel M. Henson, 70, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, following an extended illness.
She was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Percy Vance Sr. and Pearlie Ellen Mann Henson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margie Henson Hicks Hartley and Lexie Henson Harmon.
Ms. Henson was a homemaker and attended Keenburg Freewill Baptist Church. She loved her family and considered them her life.
Survivors include her son, Terry Henson and his wife Betty, Gray, Tenn.; five grandsons, Chris Henson, Cory Henson and Michael Jester, all of Elizabethton, and Tyler Shoemate and Ethan Green, both of Gray; two sisters, Texie Washburn and husband Gordon, Bristol, Conn.; and Frances VanLandingham, Poga, Tenn.; two brothers, John “J.C.” Henson and wife Kathy, Hampton, and Percy Henson Jr., Roan Mountain; two step-granddaughters, Amanda Green and Christy Brooks, both of Gray; and one step-grandson, Jessie Shoemate, Unicoi. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The celebration of life service for Ms. Henson will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 24, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Gene Fleenor officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jennifer Gillenwater. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, January 25, at Flat Springs Cemetery in the Flats Springs community of North Carolina. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Friday.
