Ms. Mae Burleson, 74, 608 Birch St., Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012 at her residence, following an extended illness. She was a native of Butler and the daughter of the late Harry and Gilley Clawson Lewis. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Celive Lewis, Earl Lewis and Paul Lewis; two sisters, Nora Lee Smith and Jean Shepard; one son, Darrel Ray Ritchie; and one nephew, Tony Bullock.
Ms. Burleson loved bowling and going to Harrah’s Casino in Cherokee, NC. She was a hard worker and loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a waitress and room service attendant at Holiday Inn in Johnson City for twenty seven years and was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include one son, Richard Burleson and wife Sharon, Elizabethton; two daughters, Penny Burleson, Elizabethton; Cathy Burrow and husband William, Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Jason Burleson, Brittany Turbyfill and husband Cody, James Burrow, Jessica Jones, Cody Burrow and Jeremiah Burrow, all of Elizabethton; four great-grandchildren, Dominic Burleson, Ciara Burleson, Abigail Burleson and Corbin Jones, all of Elizabethton; one brother, Roy Lewis and wife Joy; one sister in law, Georgia Lewis; two special nephews, Bobby Bullock and wife Bobbie and David Lewis. Several other nieces and nephews survive.
The funeral service for Ms. Burleson will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor David Nelson, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service and at the residence at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at Highland Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jason Burleson, James Burrow, William Burrow, Cody Turbyfill, Cody Burrow and Chris Cash. Honorary pallbearers will be her special friends at Holiday Inn of Johnson City. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 AM on Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Martin Palmeri, Dr. Kim Pratt, Dr. Jason Budde and the nurses and staff of Mountain States Hospice for the love and care shown to Ms. Burleson.
