Lowell J. Keller

Lowell J. Keller, 81, of Ellenboro, N.C., went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, N.C., following an extended illness.
He was born in Granite Falls, N.C., and was a former resident of Elizabethton, Tenn. He was the son of the late Felix J. and Ethel Carolina Fox Keller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Virginia Keller Retter, and two brothers, John Dale Keller and Arthur Kenneth Keller.
Mr. Keller was a former Industrial Arts teacher for 14 years in West Palm Beach, Fla., and was a retired housing developer. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church of Elizabethton. He was a 1949 graduate of Elizabethton High School and earned his Master’s Degree from ETSU in 1958, where he graduated magna cum laude.
Mr. Keller was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in the Korean War. He also loved fishing, gardening and mowing his lawn.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Hattie Wiseman Keller, of the home; a daughter, Cynthia Keller Porter and husband Andy, Beech Mountain, N.C.; a son, Dr. Jeffrey Keller and wife Mollie, Ellenboro, N.C.; two grandsons, Blake Keller, Lake Mary, Fla., and Aaron Bryan Keller, U.S. Army, Ft. Bragg, N.C.; a sister, Mary Jane Keller Hamrick, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Keller, Ormond Beach, Fla., and a brother-in-law, Bob Retter, Bluff City, Tenn.
The graveside service for Mr. Keller will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 19, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. David Philbeck officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2 p.m. Saturday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery.
