Louise Tucker Pleasant, 92, of Butler, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Old Butler, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Matilda Burton Tucker.
Louise was a 1938 graduate of Watauga Academy. She was associated with her husband for several years in the operation of Pleasant’s General Store, Butler. She was an active member of Little Doe Baptist Church until her illness where she was a former Sunday School Teacher, active in the W.M.U. and was former treasurer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Karl Pleasant, and by five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Trula Haley and her fiancé, Sid Smithdeal, Butler; two sons, Dick Pleasant and his fiancée, Dr. Teresa Garland, Jonesborough, and Mike Pleasant, Butler; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Ona Pleasant Long, Butler.
A Service to Celebrate the Life of Louise Pleasant will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 17, at Little Doe Baptist Church with the Rev. Kreg Smith officiating. Music will be provided by her great-grandchildren. Interment will follow in the Butler Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren, her church family and the alumni of Watauga Academy. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to her caregivers, Annie Lee Lowe and Goldie Luckett, and also to the staff of Mountain City Care Center and Blue Ridge Senior Living Home. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Little Doe Baptist Church.
