Larry Madison Taunton, 70, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2012, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Columbus, Ga., he was a son of the late Joseph and Dorothy Christopher Taunton.
Mr. Taunton had lived in Carter County for a number of years. He was a retired Tech. Sgt. with the United States Air Force. He also had worked at Corrugated Containers.
Mr. Taunton was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Taunton Jr.; his first wife, Linda Taunton; and his second wife, Helen Perry Taunton.
Survivors include two daughters, Laurie Plumley of Oregon and April Taunton of North Carolina; four grandsons, Drew and Lucas Hopkins, Matthew Taunton and Daniel Ball; two granddaughters, Kristin Taunton and Emily Ball; three step-sons, Roy, Jerry and Clarence Perry; and two step-daughters, Sonya Perkins and Elizabeth Ester.
Funeral services for Mr. Taunton will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, December 30, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Harry Shaefer officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 1 p.m. Monday, December 31, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers and Military Honors will be provided by Shaw Air Force Base, Sumpter, S.C. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. Monday to go to the cemetery.
