Karen P. Vestal


Karen Potter Vestal, 55, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012 in the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was a daughter of the late Ross Ray and Viola Faye Johnson Potter and was born in Carter County. She was an LPN with Appalachian Christian Village and a former employee of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department. Mrs. Vestal was a member of Beck Mountain Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Hampton Volunteer Fire Department. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and canning.

Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Mitchell Vestal, of the home; three children, Patti English, Kingsport; Dalton Vestal, of the home; and Patricia Mann, Unicoi; two grandchildren, Koty English and K.C. English, both of Kingsport; one sister, Kim Denton and her husband, Darren, Elizabethton; and two brothers, Kevin Potter and Keith Potter, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will hold a celebration of life service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, at Beck Mountain Baptist Church with Pastor Ronnie Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the church from5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service or at the residence at other times. Private disposition will be held at a later date.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Carter County Constable Association, 900 East Elk Avenue, Elizabethton, TN, 37643.
