John V. Van Dyke

John V. Van Dyke, 85, of Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Pine Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.

A native of Johnson City, he was the son of the late Lawrence V. Van Dyke and Martha Bradshaw Van Dyke Myers.

M. Van Dyke retired as a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service, having served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He later worked as a brick fireman with General Shale Corporation.

Mr. Van Dyke was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Elizabethton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Van Dyke, and a nephew, Bobby Van Dyke.

Surviving Mr. Van Dyke is a cousin, Hildred Lewis, Elizabethton.

The graveside service for Mr. Van Dyke will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 3, in the Highland Cemetery with Rev. Bryan Smith officiating. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Saturday for the service. Online condolences may be sent to the family and viewed by visiting www.hathawaypercy.com and signing the guest book.
