Joann (Gouge) Stanley, 75, of Roan Mountain, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, following an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late John E. and Maxie Whitehead Gouge.
Ms. Stanley was a 1955 graduate of Cloudland High School and in the 1970s was an owner of Gayle’s Drive-In, with her husband, Gayle Stanley, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a son, Scotty; her sisters, Goldia Julian and Loretta Gouge; her brothers, Wydner Gouge and Conley Gouge; and a special niece, Vickie (Miller) Hill.
Survivors include her loving son, Ricky and wife Linda Stanley, and a step-granddaughter, Molly, all of Roan Mountain; a brother, John Jr. and wife Bea Gouge, and nieces, Tammy and Susan, all of Denver, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Mabel Gouge, Hampton; a special niece, Connie Jo Howell and husband Joe, Burnsville, N.C.; and best friends, Brenda Johnson and Mary Hardy.
The graveside service for Ms. Stanley will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, February 22, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, officiating.
