Joan Marie “Byrd” Smith

Mrs. Joan Marie “Byrd” Smith, 60, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at her residence following an extended illness.
A native of Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late John and Marie Johnson Bowling.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her animals and working in her flowers.
Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Terry Smith, of the home; one daughter, Lisa Bowling and her husband, Brian Pritchard, Roan Mountain; two grandsons, Justin Bowling and his fiancée, Mekesha Isaacs, both of Hampton, and Cody Bowling, Elizabethton; one granddaughter, Shae Franklin and her husband, Lee, Erwin; one great-grandson, Logan Bowling, Erwin; and a sister-in-law, Rene Stout and her husband, Kenny, Elizabethton.
The funeral service for Mrs. Smith will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Bobby Burrows officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the funeral service. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 31, at Wilson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Terry Smith, Justin Bowling, Brian Pritchard and Lee Franklin. Honorary pallbearers will be Bonnie Ginn, Wanda Kropkowski, Pam McClure, Dorothea Stamathis and Lana Perry. Everyone will meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 12:15 p.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Mountain States Hospice for their care and support given to Mrs. Smith during her sickness. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Carter County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 134, Elizabethton, TN 37644.
