James Kenneth Gregg, 87, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 7 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013. He was born on Aug. 20, 1926 to Martha Gregg and James G. Proffitt in Old Butler, Tenn. He was married to Romona McQueen on Sept. 21, 1947. She passed away on April 6, 1992.
He is survived by three daughters, Jeannie Butrick of Edwardsburg, Mich., Kitty Gregg of Peachtree City, Ga., and Nancy (Steven) Replogle of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Lee, Christopher, Sarah, Abigail and Rachael; and 11 great-grandchildren, David, Hali, Alex, Kalebb, Adrian, Erik, Ciera, Dylan, Logan, Jessie and Roman. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert D. Proffitt and his family of Powhatan, Va., and Wayne Morley and his family of Johnson City, and a sister, Pearl Matherly of Butler.
He was an Ironworker for Local 292, South Bend for over 50 years, and had previously worked for TVA in Eastern Tennessee and Custodis Construction. In 1958, his family of five relocated to Northern Indiana where they lived until 1960, when they moved to Edwardsburg, Mich.
A time of gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 in Abundant Faith Family Ministries, 833 S. 30th St., South Bend, IN 46615. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. in the church with Apostle James B. Williams Jr. officiating.
